The ylang ylang plant is an evergreen climbing vine, with its flowers known as the ‘flowers of love’, well known for its exotic and unique scent. Grown in humid tropical areas in South East Asia, the production of Ylang ylang is really quite fascinating. The oil is produced from the flower which has no scent in its infancy but as it matures from its green to yellow form over a 2 to 3 week period its exudes a beautiful fragrance. It is when a red spotty tinge appears at the base of the flower that we know the flower has the maximum amount of oil.
