Oakmoss Absolute is a 100% pure oil with a unique, sensual aroma, offering notes of mossy, musky, amber, woody, and earthy scents. Traditionally used in pastilles since the Middle Ages, it’s now a key ingredient in well-known chypre perfumes like Mitsouko. Oakmoss is a lichen that grows on oak trees in Europe and Africa, ranging in color from green to black. After harvesting, the moss is dried, pressed, and processed for solvent extraction.
As a fixative, Oakmoss Absolute blends beautifully with floral, green, and oriental accords, making it a versatile base note in perfumery. The oil must be heated separately before mixing with carrier oils or ethanol. Originating from Macedonia and Morocco, it is processed in France.
